Merry Christmas!

Dear Friends and Family,

I can't believe Christmas is less than one week away.  Time has gone by so quickly with little Gideon here.  It seems like yesterday I was holding a little swaddled peanut in my arms!  He is changing so much week to week. This week he has just about mastered holding his head up - he has started cooing and mimicing some of the sounds we make to him.  It really wont be long before he rolls over, I see him bending that little leg and wiggling all over the place trying to figure it out.  We've actually had to strap him into his swing because he's become a little wiggly bear!

I look forward to attending church for the first time with Gideon on Christmas Eve.  I plan to strap him in his new favorite way to be carried, in the Moby, facing outward.

I took him to Walmart last week to pick up a few things and did not feel like fighting with the giant stroller.  So, I just stuck him in the Moby (it's a baby carrier that allows him to be close to my body).  It was very entertaining to see people's reactions to him in the Moby - as he is about eye level with most people.  Gideon was very enthralled by all the big bright lights, sounds, and colors at Walmart.  It seems like he will definately be a little social butterfly.

Merry Christmas!

Final Count Down

Dear Friends,

Well, it looks like it really wont be much longer now.  October is finally here!!!  I can hardly believe it.  It really snuck up on us and I keep wondering where in the world September went.  I am glad his birth month is finally here, I am so anxious to meet him.

We have been so incredibly blessed by family, friends, and neighbors that continue to shower us and little Gideon with gifts.  Thank you all so very much; we are deeply grateful and know that Gideon, as well as us, will enjoy and appreciate each and every gift you all have given us.  We could not be more blessed by the thoughtful, generous, and kind people that surround our little family.  Thank you.

We absolutely love the name Gideon; our little warrior.  There have been a few scares along the way with his thickened neck, two vessel cord, and twice a week appointments to the midwives for non-stress tests, but this is all part of becoming a parent.  I never realized the worry begins LONG before the baby every arrives as does the unsurpassed amount of love that I already feel for this new little person about to take over our lives. I would be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to it immensely.

Chris and I - well mainly Chris - is hoping Gideon will continue to "bake" until October 30th; his birthday.  To be honest, I am so ready to meet our little man and am so done being pregnant that he could come any day between now and then and make me one happy mama!  I know he will arrive when he is ready and we will be ready for him when he comes.

Here's to less than three weeks until we meet Gideon or 23 days if you happen to be counting - ahem like me!

Changes

Howdy-do!

Here we are on the home stretch and the final count down.  We have less than eight weeks to go.  At our last visit with the midwives, we were informed that because of me failing the gestational diabeties test that Gideon will not be allowed to go full term.  This is because of the elevated levels of glucose in my blood (that my body cannot process due to the placental prodcuing pregnancy hormones and creating insulin resistance), Gideon is producing an excessive amount of his own insulin trying to process the extra sugar.  Unfortunately, insulin is also a growth hormone!  The longer he stays or over stays in the womb the bigger he could get and be harder to vaginally deliver.  So, they are only allowing him to reach week 39 - we get to meet him a week early!!!

Mom seems to think he will arrive on or around October 20-21st.  Either way, I will be happy to see his little face!

Welcome

How are you all?  No doubt you are checking in to get some info about our little man that will be arriving in November!  I tell ya, time just keeps flying - like I have no idea what happened to the month of June!  It seems incredible that our first child will be here in just FOUR months!

Our little baby does not have an official name yet.  I have tried to stick a name on him, but I need to see him first.  Funny how that works!  Oddly with dogs I am exactly the opposite, but yes, I know....my child and my dog are no where near comparable.  The contending names are Jennings Calhoun, Colton Walker, and Gideon Ross.  What I can tell you; however, is he is one active little due!  Recently he has found the joy of using my bladder as a trampoline.  When we were visiting the midwife for a routine check, we only heard his heartbeat between kicks.  He is definitely an active baby already.

I will most likely be updating this monthly or twice a month, depending on how much activity we see, but I will switch to more frequent update when the little bear arrives.  Until then, you -like me- are playing the waiting game.
